Jessup Manufacturing Company announced Jessica Tomaszewski is the winner of the 2016 Paul S. Jessup Scholarship. Ms. Tomaszewski is a PhD student in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She will receive an unrestricted grant of $2,500 from Jessup to support her education.
“We congratulate Jessica Tomaszewski on winning our first Paul S. Jessup Scholarship grant. Her accomplishments and statement of purpose stood out among an outstanding group of applicants,” said Robert A. Jessup, President and Chief Executive Officer. “With her knowledge and enthusiasm, Jessica makes meteorology and atmospheric science, particularly wind energy, accessible and exciting for the rest of us. She is a talented scientist and teacher.”
“Thank you to the Jessup team for the kind acknowledgement,” stated Jessica Tomaszewski. “It has been a life-long aspiration of mine to contribute to society through both science and education, and it is certainly an honor to have the support of Jessup Manufacturing as I pursue those goals.”
The Paul S. Jessup Scholarship recognizes academic achievement and dedication to making a difference in society. It was established in 2016 to honor the memory of the company’s founder during its 60th anniversary year of operation. The scholarship program is open to Jessup Manufacturing Company employees, their spouses, children, and grandchildren. The award is entirely unrestricted as to age, gender identity, race, religion, or political affiliation.
“We attribute our history of success to our culture of innovation and learning,” stated Rob Jessup. “That’s how we were able to evolve from making leather welts for baseball gloves to being a global manufacturer of adhesive coated films for industrial and safety applications.”
Ms. Tomaszewski obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 2015, graduating summa cum laude. As an undergraduate, she received a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship to study tornadic and severe weather. She began her graduate studies in 2015 pursuing her PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS), National Weather Association (NWA), Earth Science Women’s Network, and Women of Wind Energy.
